J’ai beaucoup hésité avant de prendre la décision de partir, un an à l’étranger semble en effet très long, et puis un jour j’ai saisi cette opportunité. Partir étudier à l’étranger cette année m’a appris beaucoup plus que tout ce que l’on m’a enseigné auparavant en cours de langues au lycée. 
Au début cela fait peur, c’est partir seul, dans un pays inconnu, entendre en continu une langue qui n’est pas la sienne. Le plus dur est de se lancer, mais une fois sur place on s’habitue petit à petit à la langue et aux coutumes locales et avant même de s’en apercevoir l’année se termine déjà et pourtant on ne veux plus s'en aller!

Un autre des nombreux points positifs de partir étudier à l’étranger c’est l’opportunité de rencontrer de nouvelles personnes. Des personnes qui vous guideront tout au long de votre aventure,  et vous permettront ainsi de découvrir la vie locale et comment s’y intégrer. Les personnes que vous rencontrez donneront alors tout son sens à votre année à l’étranger. 
J'ai rejoins la "marching band" (fanfare) de mon lycée, puis la comédie musicale et enfin l’équipe d'athlétisme de l'école, c’est ce qui m'a permis de rencontrer tous mes amis. Une des nombreuses choses qui m'a surpris c'est l'esprit d'équipe américain, tout le monde réuni pour se soutenir...c’était vraiment génial.

Avec du recul je me rends compte que ce qui compte vraiment ce n’est pas l’endroit où j’ai passé cette année mais les personnes que j’ai rencontrées et l’ont rendue si exceptionnelle.  Si vous en avez la chance, n’hésitez pas à partir !

I remember that day when I decided to live almost a whole year abroad. I wasn't confident for many reasons. In fact, I did not speak english very well, I had to meet new people, I had to be away from everything I was used to. I was basically jumping into something new, blurry in my mind, and unknown. It has been the hardest decision I have ever taken in my life, but also the best one. On August 9th, 2013, I left my family, I left my town, I left my country. First stop: New-York City. I remember watching at my feet when I walked on the American's floor for the first time. I was walking on my dream, and I couldn't believe it. Moments like that are moments I won't ever forget. They are simple, but are engraved in my mind, and meaningful. It was the beginning and I was so excited knowing what could follow this. Then, I met my host family in Utah, the state I would live in. The first days were kind of awkward because I didn't really know what to say. I was trying to fit. Days after days, weeks after weeks, months after months, I learned how to deal with all the situations an exchange student has to face. It wasn't easy everyday, but I was living something awesome and precious to me. Now, I am back home, in France. Already. And I remember. I remember the chance I had visiting awesome places, meeting awesome people, discovering new things everyday. I hope that more and more people will have the chance to live an experience changing their lives, because mine has definitely changed.

Bonjour WEP !

Je tiens vraiment à remercier ce programme qui m'a aidée (beaucoup aidée) à accomplir un rêve !

Un semestre s'est écoulé et le temps a passé super vite ! J'ai découvert énormément et je compte continuer.

J'ai effectivement découvert un sport auquel je n'avais jamais joué à part à l'école, le basketball !

On avait une équipe formidable et que des fous rires ! Nos capitaines nous ont emmenées jusqu'à être championnes de notre league !

C'était un moment exceptionnel de sauter de joie avec ma team ! le prochain sera athlétisme.

J'ai reçu la lettre que j'ai écrite il y a un million d'années on dirait et je suis contente de voir que tout ce que j'espérais est arrivé en 1.000 fois mieux et ce que j'espérais qu'il ne m'arrive pas ne m'est pas arrivé.

En tout cas merci beaucoup pour tous ces moments de joies partagés avec des personnes exceptionnelles, très importantes pour moi maintenant, que je n'aurais jamais rencontrées sans votre aide!

I think my experience was the best I could have hoped for, I discovered a new place with nice people, an amazing family and great friends, a supportive and very active high school and I don't think it is over because I'll be back there as soon as I can!

My host family was really nice, they even got my Danish sister and me presents when we first arrived! I came over a few days before my host sister, and I might have been a little shy at the beginning, but it got better and I started to talk quickly! They have been hosting kids for the past few years and know what they are doing which makes it even easier I think!

I haven't been in any trouble with my host family yet, and I don't think I will. If there is a little problem we will talk about it but most of the time it is never a big deal and we get to fix it.

I want to say that we are all pretty close to each other in my family with my host mom, dad and host sister.

It is was really easy for me to integrate at the school. I live in a small town, everybody knows each other. Besides it, as I said my family has been hosting for a few years so the kids they had last year told their friends that my host siter and I would be here this year. Kids in our town kind of knew us before we arrived here and they started talking to us even before school started! I also think that doing sports at school helps a lot to make friends!

I don't think anything was really hard for me over here... I even want to say that the hardest thing for me was to keep contact with my family and friends in France!!

Cette expérience à été pour moi une réelle révélation sur le fait qu'il ne faut jamais attendre quelque-chose de précis, mais qu'il faut faire avec ce qu'on nous propose. Je ne retiendrai absolument que du positif sachant que ce programme et cette expérience ont répondu à plus que prévu.

Bonjour, 

Je vous envoie ce mail pour vous donner un peu de mes nouvelles durant mon programme ici au USA à Baltimore. 

La plus importante des nouvelles serait que dernièrement j'ai été invitée à la Maison Blanche, à Washington pour assister à la cérémonie d'arrivée de François Hollande aux Etats-Unis. Ceci a eu lieu aujourd'hui le 11 février 2014, c'est pourquoi je vous envoie ce mail aujourd'hui sachant que c'est frais du jour. Donc j'ai pu assister à la cérémonie, voir Barack Obama, Michelle Obama et François Hollande. J'ai pensé que c'était une bonne idée de vous envoyer des photos sachant que je trouve que c'est très représentatif de mon programme, voir les président français et américain. 

Merciii encore pour cette merveilleuse expérience je n'aurais jamais pensé pouvoir les rencontrer un jour :D 

It was an enriching year. I learned a lot of things, not only about the American culture, which is way different than ours, but also about myself, I'm pretty proud of my progress in English and of what I've accomplished through this year. I met amazing people that I know I will stay in touch with, my host family is part of them, of course. This year was a success.

I built a new life in only a short time. I have a new family, new friends. I changed, I grew and became autonomous. I also learnt about a wonderful country.

My year has been rich. I learned so much and I will do it again if I can. Now, I have 3 families all around the world and I'm I will go visit them one day.

I had a great experience in the USA, I'm probably never gonna forget this year. My family and friends showed me around and made me feel like a real American. I also experienced a lot of new things with school, like graduation which was a lot of fun.

Notre fille vient de rentrer d'une année aux Etats Unis, où elle a suivi un programme d'exchange student à Wenatchee - WA. Nous tenons à témoigner du sérieux de l'organisme WEP du début lors des premiers entretiens à Lyon jusqu'à la fin du séjour, de l'excellent suivi et de la disponibilité des interlocuteurs. La seule petite chose qu'il faudrait améliorer mais cela viendrait plutôt de l'agence de voyage, est la durée des voyages avec plusieurs escales et pas mal d'attente entre les vols. Cependant comparé au rêve qu'elle a vécu cela n'est qu'un détail ! MERCI WEP !

Do not be shy! Try everything and visit all the places you can! Enjoy every moments of this experience it's going to fly so fast!

In 10 months I learnt to think and dream in English. I went to an American high school and to all the lacrosse and football games. I visited awesome places and made amazing friends. In 10 months I became American and those memories are priceless.

The 6 months I spent in America was the best thing I ever did in my life. I really loved meeting new friends and doing things I would have never done in France.

It's a life changing experience even if we don't realize it at first. I learned so much, traveled a lot and met amazing people. I don't regret this year at all, I had so much fun and I would go back if I could. I feel really lucky I got to do that.

Best, most amazing experience of my life in which I got to discover so much about myself and that changed my vision of the world.

My experience was wonderful and fast. You suddenly start a new life that you didn't know anything about. It was hard but it helped me so much. I'm now stronger and more mature.

My family was very good, very nice! It was extremely simple to live and to talk with them. And we have the same sense of humor, that made very strong relationships.

This experience, for me, was very important. It was difficult at the beginning to understand this new language, but people I met made it easy, they helped me a lot in English and I think that helped me inside too. These people became my friends I will never forget.

It was so amazing to live in an American family for a year! I got to meet a lot of people who were really nice to me. I went to cool places, to NBA games, got to play in my school basketball team! School was definitly the best part.

It was fun, my family was exeptional ! I grew up thank to this trip. I will never forget this, and I advise all people who can do it to do it.

My advice : Just try to be the more sociable even if it’s hard, just go to other people and try something, people will be cool and will understand that it’s hard for you.

13 Août 2013, aéroport de Fayetteville : je rencontre ma famille d'accueil pour la première fois. 

"Ils sont tout petits", je me dis. Pour moi, un Américain, c'est grand. Premier stéréotype démenti, donc, qui débutera une liste sans fin.

Pourtant, je suis arrivée dans un État plutôt traditionnelle !

Je ne connaîtrai pas les magnifiques plages de la Floride ou les interminables gratte-ciels de Washington : à moi l'Arkansas, les cowboys, les vaches et la country !

Une formidable expérience s'offre désormais à moi : je voulais découvrir quelque-chose de différent et me voilà dans le berceau de la culture américaine !

Équipe de foot championne d'Arkansas, découverte de la culture Juive avec ma famille d'accueil et Église gospel en compagnie de ma coordinatrice... une année bien surprenante pour la petite Parisienne que je suis !

Une chose est sûre, cette année restera gravée dans ma mémoire! Et c'est avec un pendentif de l'Arkansas (un carré pas très fashion !) que je déambulerai désormais fièrement dans les rues de Paris.

I discovered wonderful people during my program, and their culture. I also learned English and I am able to speak and understand English without difficulty. This experience made me grow, I have changed. I am more mature. I will never regret this experience.

Do not hesitate to leave your familles. Even if it is for a long time. It is hard but worthy. You should not miss that opportunity to live such great experience you'll remember your whole life.

It was a great experience made of discoveries and trying out new things throughout the whole year. I met two amazing host families and I will never forget this year.
